Haifa Wehbe has taken over New York City, in what actually marks a moment for the books.
The Lebanese superstar has been seen sitting on a billboard atop the New York Police Department in Times Square. In a moment that cements her enduring influence on the global music stage, Wehbe has been unveiled as Spotify Equal’s latest global ambassador.
The achievement celebrates the Middle Eastern singer’s decades-long impact on Arab pop culture and marks a significant achievement for the region, increasing its global visibility.
Wehbe is widely regarded as one of the most commercially successful female entertainers in the Middle East. Her debut studio album was released in 2002 and has since been followed by six more hit records. She has amassed over 150 million Spotify streams and topped worldwide charts.
The singer has also won multiple Murex d’Or Awards, Big Apple Music Awards and regional honours like the Golden Lion in Egypt.
Launched in 2021, Spotify Equal is the streaming platform’s flagship initiative dedicated to amplifying the voices of women in music. Created to foster greater gender equity across the industry, the initiative spotlights female artists through editorial playlists, campaigns and international visibility.
As Global Ambassador, Wehbe joins an impressive roster of women whose artistry has resonated far beyond their home markets, bringing Arab music to an even wider audience.
Wehbe herself expressed how much her ambassador role means to her.
“The program aligns closely with my belief in empowering women to rise beyond the limitations placed around them and claim their space on the stages of the world, fully owning their identities, careers, art and stories,” she said in a statement. “It celebrates the legacies of women from around the world, and I’m honored to have mine celebrated through this program as well.”
The recognition arrives at a time when Arabic music continues to enjoy unprecedented international momentum. Over the past few years, artists like Saint Levant have increasingly found audiences well beyond the region, driven by streaming platforms that have made discovering music across languages and cultures easier than ever before.
