Kary Cheng, GLIST’s founder and CEO, began her career as an accountant, and never in her wildest dreams imagined she’d one day launch a skincare brand. But, after moving to the UAE and finding a disappointingly sparse sheet mask market, she realised she needed to bring her love of sheet masks to the region, stat.

Enter: Dubai’s first premium, East Asian skincare brand that specialises in sheet masks of the highest calibre. After declaring that sheet masks played a big role in her skincare routine while growing up, and describing them as “the most important step in East Asian skincare,” Cheng combined the best of Japanese and Korean trends and technologies to bring a centuries-old ritual to desert-parched skin.

In a statement to the press, Cheng explained, “After living in Dubai for a decade, I found myself having to travel back to Hong Kong for sheet masks because I couldn’t find any in the Gulf that matched the quality or delivered the same results as other leading East Asian brands. It seemed crazy to me that after all this time I still had to travel to a different country to buy the skincare essential that I’d relied on my whole life to rejuvenate my skin. So, I created GLIST to introduce people in the region to the powerful rejuvenation benefits of high-quality sheet masks and provide those that lead busy lifestyles a chance to escape time-consuming skincare routines and indulge in a simple and effective way to take care of their skin and feel their best.”

While wanting to encourage self-care, self-love and a celebration of natural beauty by embracing natural skin, Cheng also wanted GLIST to be inclusive. Each mask is vegan, cruelty-free, suitable for all skin types and – pioneeringly – halal.

Speaking exclusively to our beauty writer, Cheng explained, “There are a lot of firsts in the products: first semi-gel, semi-fibre sheet material, and first quality sheet masks to be launched in the Gulf.”

The material used for each sheet mask is not only unique but deliciously satisfying to use. The wet, jelly-like sheets stick to your face like a second skin, which (when combined with the action-packed serum formulas themselves) encourage deep in-the-pore absorption of hero ingredients (hyaluronic acid and allantoin included). They then transform with wear, which is a sign that they’re working and the formulas are being absorbed into skin.
