And just like that, it’s New York Fashion Week again.
For those of you who’ve been around might recall when Fashion Week officially took place in the heart of Bryant Park, around the old garment district and Seventh Avenue. But due to neighbours getting bothered by the flood of the fashion crowd, the events migrated toward Lincoln Center, Spring Studios and now, in all honesty, whatever outdoor space they could find to fit in hundreds of people – and secure a breathtaking view.
As the city was gearing up for the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Center attack, Scott took the opportunity to pay homage to the city by unveiling his Moschino spring 2021 collection, typically held in Milan, in the heart of Bryant Park, where fashion week officially began. Despite the downpour, Moschino showed up and showed out. His collection ‘Baby Ladies’ feasted our eyes with candy-coloured hues and 1960’s inspired miniskirt sets – it was a whole mood. There were sky-high Mary Janes, toy handbags, big heart buttons on jackets, larger than life hair and a unique array of asymmetric patchwork baby blanket gowns.
New mom Gigi Hadid, who undoubtedly has experience in stuffed animals and bottle feeding, opened and closed the show. Her final look featuring a patchwork gown covered in the dreamiest cartoon figures and showcased a one-shoulder elephant detailing on her sleeve. Her accessory? A baby bottle bag. The model was joined by several regular Moschino faces like Cara Taylor, Jasmine Tookes, Irina Shayk and many more.
When it came to beauty looks, Makeup artist Kabuki opted for warm peaches, candy pinks, and playful tones on the models’ cheeks, eyes, and lips. Stylist Danilo created colourful braids featuring heavy plastic beads and all things 80’s and airy-inspired updo’s for hairstyles. It was nostalgic, to say the least, showing us a glimpse of how it felt to be a kid in the ’90s.
