Louis Vuitton and Nike are set to auction 200 pairs of Air Force 1s designed by the late Virgil Abloh for his Spring-Summer 22′ Collection at Louis Vuitton. The bidding will occur at Sotheby’s, one of the world’s most renowned auction houses, which is notorious for its art and luxury auctions. The bidding for this auction will begin on January 26th and close on February 8th at Sotheby’s website. Each of the 200 pairs will start at the bidding price of 7,345 AED and includes a Louis Vuitton Pilot Case from the Spring-Summer 22′ Collection. The trainers are a limited edition item auctioned in sizes 5-18 and will not be sold in Louis Vuitton’s commercial launch of Men’s Spring-Summer 22′ sneakers.

Virgil Abloh was the Men’s Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton until his passing on November 28th of last year. He had started to put this auction into motion before then, and now Louis Vuitton and Nike are seeing his plans through in affiliation with the designer’s family. One of these plans is to donate all proceeds from the auction to The Virgil Abloh™ “Post-Modern” Scholarship Fund, which supports Black, African American, or African descent students in pursuing an education in fashion – solidifying his impact on the fashion industry for decades to come.

The limited-edition sneaker is an eye-catching bespoke item that celebrates Virgil Abloh’s love of hip-hop culture and Nike’s 40th anniversary of its classic AF1 design. The shoe combines brand codes from the French Fashion house, like the Damier pattern and LV monogram, one of Virgil Abloh’s signature quotations, and materials from the menswear collection, like calf leather and cowhide (for the piping). It’s a gorgeous sneaker that will be on public display at Sotheby’s in New York from January 19th to the auction’s close on February 8th.
