Regarded as one of the leading international forums for artists from the SWANA region, the yearly art show gets ready for its 17th edition. It will be held at Dubai’s Madinat Jumeirah from March 1 to 3, 2024, with previews on February 28 and 29. The week-long art festival is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Global Art Forum

This year, there will be a wider range of partnerships with both local and international artists at Art Dubai. The Global Art Forum, the event’s premier summit, will take place on February 29. It will study how extreme weather has a transformative effect on a variety of fronts in the social, scientific and cultural spheres. The forum, curated by Shumon Basar and Nadine El Khoury, will have a lineup of renowned speakers. It will include artists Monira Al Qadiri and Gabriel Alonso. As well as thinktank AMO at the Office of Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam’s Samir Bantal and Stephanie Rosenthal of Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.

Modern and Collector Talks

Highlights of Art Dubai also include the Modern and Collector Talks, in association with the Dubai Collection. It will explore creative relationships established during the Cold War. With an emphasis on artists from South Asia, Africa and the Middle East, these discussions seek to move the topic away from Western viewpoints and toward the influence of Soviet educational programs and exhibitions. The Modern and Collector Talks will offer insights into the wider art scene. As well as highlight the importance of institutional collecting, support for the arts and philanthropy.

The A.r.m Holding Children’s Programme

The A.R.M Holding Children’s Programme will impact 15,000 young minds by extending to over 100 schools as part of the fair’s education component. Every year, this program chooses one artist to create programs that transcend beyond the fair and into government, private and special education needs schools all around the nation. Sahil Naik, an Indian artist, will be in charge of the program this year. He will use his approach of sculpture and architecture to get kids thinking about what cities can look like in the future.

Contributions

Several commissioned pieces with themes of healing and optimism will also be on display at the art fair. They will examine the power of art in trying circumstances. These works will feature films, performances and activations made by artists from the Global South. They will provide places for introspection and highlight communal practices associated with the healing process. Additionally, Piaget will host “The House of Gold,” an exhibition that delves into the symbolic meanings of gold, ranging from perfection to opulence. Moreover, the exhibition will include workshops, interactive experiences, commissioned artwork, jewellery and timepieces.
