At the heart of this movement are Emirati women, whose vision and talent have set new benchmarks across every creative field. Their journeys are not only shaping industries but also redefining what it means to innovate with authenticity and purpose.

Below, GRAZIA is spotlighting seven trailblazing women whose creativity and impact are impossible to overlook – women who embody the spirit of progress and whose work deserves to be celebrated today and always.

Nayla Al Khaja

As the UAE’s first female film director, Nayla Al Khaja really has paved the way for the space in the UAE, as well as the wider region. The filmmaker made her directorial debut with Three which premiered in 2024 across the MENA region. As well as her individual projects, Al Khaja founded her own production company back in 2005, Al Khaja films, championing young women in the film industry. Al Khaja has gone on to become internationally recognised not only for film making skills, but also for her undeniable business and entrepreneurial endeavours.

Shaikha Al Mazrou

As one of the most promising young artists, Shaikha Al Mazrou. Her experimental sculptures and playful use of materiality. Shaikha plays with the balance of colour and abstraction to create conceptually interesting pieces, which are minimal and deeply rooted in the ideas of modernity. Her geometric creations have become famed with several instillations globally from Dubai, Hong Kong and London.

This Emirati conceptual artist, creates portraits which look into the lives of people which she observes, capturing their emotions, preserving modern history as it is happening. Her painting and photography is focused on capturing the architecture and generational shift within her local community. Not only this, but she often takes inspiration from historical archives to better understand the communal changes over the course of history.  Almaha Jaralla welcomes the new generation of artists and leads a new direction.

Khadija Al Bastaki

Senior Vice President of Dubai Design District, Khadija Al Bastaki is one of the top businesswomen in Dubai and is a pioneer for art, design and creative in the UAE.  She has united the UAE fashion industry and created Dubai Fashion Week with the endorsement of the Arab Fashion Council, with the event gaining regional and international recognition. This has led to Dubai’s recognition as the fashion capital of the Middle East. Not only this but she has created a vibrant creative scene, introducing events like Sole DXB and has been an advocate for upcoming creatives working closely with creative institutes within the region.

Aljoud Lootah

The multi-disciplinary designer has created her own renowned approach to creating modern luxury pieces.  Her style blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Her studio and works span across various fields including furniture, lighting and object design. Her designs are enriched by the vast mix of textures and materials used in her designs. Despite her modern approach her designs are still deeply tied to her cultural heritage infusing both styles into her works. Aljoud pieces are not only distinctively beautiful but also offer effortless functionality perfectly finding the balance of creativity and usability.

Yasmin Al Mulla

Establishing brand YNM a ready-to-wear fashion brand which specializes in simple yet elegant contemporary designs. Designed entirely inhouse by Yasmin herself and creative team. She plays with balance of creating modern design whilst maintain classic feel and structure of the pieces. Her designs are inspired by the own experience and surroundings.

Huda Al Nuaimi

Founder of the Nuaimi collective, Huda has created a uniquely creative business, taking her love of print making into lifestyle good and ready-to-wear. The sustainable focused brand designs eco-friendly products designer for the modern women. The pieces have taken the classic abaya and modernized it with vibrant prints and colors, which aim empower and bring happiness into everyday life. Not only does she design beautiful clothing works of collaboration which highlight her stunning print making working with brands such as Lancome X Nuaimi. These prints are ornately beautiful and tell a story unlike anything else and will likely will continued to be seen across the Middle East.
