As the UAE celebrated its 53rd National Day–renamed as Eid Al Etihad this year–the UAE royal family marked the occasion with a heartfelt tribute in the form of a private family gathering.
Among those who took to Instagram were Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as well as Her Highness Salama bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who shared with their respective followers how the Dubai royals celebrated National Day.
Over the course of Eid Al Etihad, the two sheikhas embraced the occasion in a traditional Emirati setting. Particularly showcasing the majlis-styled seating arrangement with red and white patterned cushions and carpets can be seen.
Showing the family’s warm and cosy atmosphere, the Sheikha’s also displayed the artisanal elements that were placed alongside the seats.
Adding to the festive spirit, Emirati flags surrounded the space, while the starry night and lush greeneries created a serene and picturesque backdrop for the celebration.
Sheikha Salama even posted a Story sharing her prayer. “O Lord, bless my steps, bless my path, bless my life,” she began.
Continuing her prayer, she said, “Establish me on earth, bless me and let me dwell in a blessed home, for You are the best of those who grant a home.”
Everything you need to know about Eid Al Etihad
Previously coined as the UAE National Day, the nation has officially designated a new name to the annual event – Eid Al Etihad, which translates to Union Day.
The event, as always, marks the symbolic formation of the seven emirates – Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.
While many expected this to be another holiday to add to the list, Eid Al Etihad is simply a fresh new title for the celebration.
Officially posted on Instagram by the organising committee, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Abdulla bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Chairman, with Her Highness Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan as Vice Chair, the annual event emphasises these pillars; sustainability, the UAE’s guardians, and being a land of endless possibilities.
Particularly a homage to the UAE’s sustainability efforts, Eid Al Etihad pays respect to the first seeds of sustainability rooted in the country’s heritage and legacy. This further expands on the UAE’s practice of conscious celebrations and lifestyle.
All in all, the event will mark and honour the UAE’s identity, unity, strength, and national pride.
