As His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II recently celebrated his 30th birthday, celebrations and congratulations came in abundance.

Stepping into a new decade, the last 12 months have been quite the journey for Jordan’s heir apparent. Not only has he elevated his role by standing side-by-side with his father, His Majesty King Abdullah II, he also entered a new chapter of his life, marrying Her Royal Highness Princess Rajwa of Saudi Arabia.

With the prince tending to his duties and fulfilling his role as the Crown Prince of Jordan, here’s everything you need to know about this Jordanian royal.

Who is Crown Prince Hussein?

Born on June 28, 1994, the Jordanian prince is the eldest son of His Majesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania. He has three younger siblings HRH Princess Iman bint Abdullah, HRH Princess Salma bint Abdullah and HRH Prince Hashem bin Abdullah.

As a descendant of His Late Majesty King Hussein bin Talal, whom he was named after, he officially became the heir to the throne ever since earning the Crown Prince title by Royal Decree on July 2, 2009.

A Military Captain

After graduating high school at Jordan’s King’s Academy and pursuing higher education earning a degree in International History at Georgetown University in 2016, he later attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where he graduated in 2017. And much like his father and predecessors, he joined the Jordanian Armed Forces and became a Captain.

At a young age, the Crown Prince has consistently made sure to make his presence known amidst his royal duties. Even earning the title as the youngest person of power to ever chair a meeting with the United Nations Security Council at only 20 years-old. Since then, his advocacy for the youth and promoting peace has become a staple practice of the prince.

Humanitarian Activist

Just like his mother, Crown Prince Hussein continues to swerve his efforts to humanitarian causes. In particular, he is known for advocating for Palestine, working with different humanitarian organisations and has even founded his own charity called Hearing Without Borders.

Trained by the King

Since becoming Crown Prince, his father has been meticulously training him to prepare him for his role as future King of Jordan. Per Samih Al-Maaytah, Jordan’s former minister of information, who previously told Arab News, “The King has been preparing the prince for years.”

“The prince attends all the important meetings of His Majesty the King with world leaders in the United Nations, Europe and at international and Arab conferences. So he is being trained directly,” he added.

Doting husband & Soon-to-be Father

Since the couple wed in June 2023, Crown Prince Hussein has been a doting husband to his wife, Princess Rajwa, helping her transition into royal life.

The pair announced the happy news earlier this year there were expecting their first child together. Princess Rajwa is expected to birth sometime between between June and September, meaning the doting husband will soon become a doting dad.

A football fan

The Jordanian Royal family, specifically the royal brothers Crown Prince Hussein and Prince Hashem have an affinity for football. Constantly attending games such as the recent AFC Asian Cup in Amman, all siblings were present in support of the national team.
