Remember when Coachella was a melting pot of blue hair, space buns, feathers, sequinned hot pants and chain mail? After a two year pandemic-related hiatus, the desert festival is back IRL and with it comes a much more low-key, pared back aesthetic.

Of course, there was still glitter and sequins aplenty, but almost every festival IT girl had swapped out cartoonish ensembles and facial accruements for raw skin, soft makeup (if any), basic wardrobe staples and a pair of Dad-era sunglasses. Maybe it has something to do with our post pandemic laziness, or the return of normcore dressing, but the OTT Pinterest-style festival caricature feels like it might finally be on the out — hell, Internet queen Emma Chamberlain wore tracksuit pants at this year’s event.

French model, IT girl and girlfriend of KJ Apa didn’t stray from her normal style, wearing an oversized graphic tee, baseball cap, natural hair and zero makeup.
Model Elsa Hosk kept it simple in a belted oversized white shirt. She threw in a Balenciaga motorcycle bag (this season’s coolest style) for good measure.
Kendall and Hailey won the first weekend — all eyeballs were on them, despite the face both wore jeans and a singlet top before changing into a black mini with boots. Simple, casual but still cool. And not a cut out or cut-off in sight.

Devon Lee Carlson is one of the biggest LA girls at Coachella this year — but eschewed her Y2K fits for a nude dress, bare face and clean bun. We’re into it.
YouTuber Emma Chamberlain actually wore boxer shorts, grey track suit pants, white slip on sneakers and a singlet on day three (basically our lockdown uniform these past 2.5 years).
Loafers, a sweat shirt and Burberry trousers were seen on Irina Shayk — who changed into a Burberry bikini, overalls and linen dress as the weekend progressed.
