Alia Shawkat is an American actress, most recently known for her role in HBO comedy series Search Party, as well as her role in Arrested Development from 2003 to 2019. Much like many Arabs around the world, Shawkat has a mixed heritage and background. She was born in Riverside, California to Dina Burke and film producer Tony Shawkat, who is of Iraqi descent and moved to the United States in the 1970s. The actress also has Irish, Italian and Norwegian roots.
After scavaging through her social media, we’ve also noticed that she doesn’t shy away from speaking up on issues that matter to her, like Palestine/Israel. Shawkat took to her Instagram to show support and solidarity for Palestine.
