Though she is currently far from the southern hemisphere, and Australia, Cate Blanchett still got the seasonal memo and dressed for the first day of spring at the 79th annual Venice Film Festival yesterday.

Blanchett attended the premiere of psychological drama Tar. The film, in which she plays the leading role of a world-famous composer and conductor, is said to have received a six-minute standing ovation in Venice. Directed and written by Todd Field, Tar has been one of the most anticipated premieres of the Italian international film festival and is already receiving Oscars buzz.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s screening took place 15 minutes late due to screaming fans and autograph-seekers, trying to get the attention of Blanchett. And honestly, who can blame them?

Naturally, Blanchett dressed for the occasion, arriving on the Venice red carpet wearing a Maison Schiaparelli haute couture corset and flared trousers. The corset was trimmed with a floral arrangement, which we’d love to believe is an ode to the change of seasons happening back home in Australia.

Tar will be hitting Australian cinemas on January 26, so consider the countdown officially on. Fingers crossed this could be Blanchett’s ticket to her third Academy Award.
