Thespian, acteur and namesake star of current award season darling, Tár, Cate Blanchett has delivered drama with a capital D on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles after arriving in a black Armani Privé lace and sequinned gown.
Someone get on the phone to the Wednesday team at Netflix and cast her as Morticia Addam’s long lost sister and sinister editor of fictitious goth fashion magazine “Morgue” right now.*
Black sequins glittering along the dress and bodice are a stunning contrast to the delicate black lacework that creates the neckline and capped sleeves.
But it’s the story behind the dress that is making fashionistas and commentators buzz even more. This stunner of a gown isn’t making its first appearance on the red carpet. Ms Blanchett’s stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, shared on Instagram the evolution of the original Armani lace dress worn by Blanchett to the 2014 Golden Globes and again at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, became the base for this evening’s look.

Blanchett has become increasingly passionate about better practices within fashion and this isn’t the first time that she has repurposed a look for a red carpet event.
At the recent BAFTAs, Blanchett arrived wearing a Martin Margiela dress she “pulled from her closet” and had first worn at the Oscars in 2015.
Blanchett, who was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her role in Tár, has always been a red carpet favourite for her combination of effortless glamour and thoughtful style.
So the fact she is walking the talk when it comes to championing recycling threads should come as no surprise.
Finishing tonight’s look Blanchett rocked Louis Vuitton jewellery, with LV Star Blossom Stud, White Gold And Diamonds earrings and rings from the maison’s High Jewellery collection, the Le Magnetisme Ring from the Bravery collection and Le Voyage Ring from the Riders of the Knights collection, both designed by Francesca Amfitheatrof.
