The world of astrology can be an overwhelming one for many.
A practice dating back to at least the second millennium BCE, it’s now become widespread amongst many, particularly with the virality of TikTok. Has your sign by any chance come up on your FYP? Yes, us too.
For Dubai-based Kirstyn Lewis, her journey began with a childhood fascination for the stars under the Southern Cross in New Zealand, known as one of the best places on Earth to view the celestial sky.
However, it wasn’t until much later in life that she founded The Karmic Soul.
Her career path led her through many industries, such as media, film, international sports, hospitality, and travel, all bringing her closer to understanding human experiences across the globe and deepening her spiritual understanding.
It wasn’t until 2007 when she settled in Dubai, that her passion for astrology heightened. Immersing herself in the UAE’s rich spiritual and astrological traditions, she began blending ancient Arabic astrological techniques with modern astrology. This journey led to the creation of The Karmic Soul, through which she helps individuals and companies navigate life’s twists and turns.
Now, with over 40 years of experience, Kirstyn is one of the most sought-after astrologists.
In this edition of GRAZIA’s Career Edit, Kirstyn shares with us her career journey and future aspirations.
My current role is…
KL: International Astrologist.
When I was younger, I wanted to be…
KL: A Geneticist.
My favourite subject at school was…
KL: Everything, but especially geography, ancient history, and sport.
My first job was…
KL: Working for a business house travel agency in New Zealand.
My career path so far has been…
KL: Exciting, educational, and surprising at every turn. Media, film and entertainment, international sport, hospitality, property, and travel. Each and every role saw me working with people from all walks of life and from all corners of the globe. I was always learning something new, with world-renowned companies or brands at the forefront.
The role the UAE has played in my career…
KL: Has been extraordinary! The UAE revealed to me that, regardless of where we are from, we all have something more to learn from those who had a different path. Living in Dubai since 2007 enabled me to go down the rabbit hole of ancient history and, of course, astrology. Spiritualism is many things to many people, but faith and tradition have consistently shown themselves to be an important part of life and are more reflective of the principles of astrology than you’d imagine.

The story of the Karmic Soul…
KL: I’ve always had a deep fascination with the stars ever since I was a child. I grew up under the Southern Cross in NZ, and it’s one of the best places on Earth to view the Universe from. It was only natural that our family spoke ad infinitum around the dinner table about the stars and science in general. In fact, my older brother is a physicist! Astrology is a symbolic language, and its intricacies take a lot of learning, application, practice, and patience before being able to confidently apply what you know. After 40 years, I’m still discovering hidden secrets in the charts. My focus is on the astrology of individuals and companies. It’s a fantastic tool for seeing what we sometimes miss. A Scorpio lawyer friend of mine came up with the name The Karmic Soul, probably because I’d spent so much time travelling the globe in search of how life actually fits together, regardless of location, age, religion, or culture. I’ve consulted with and read for some extraordinarily talented and brilliant individuals, some of whose names you’d know. Who doesn’t want to go ‘next level’? It’s always a pleasure to read for any client; I can’t tell you how much I love what I do.
I was inspired to enter the astrology space…
KL: Because I knew I had a gift for reading charts. I know how useful it is to share a personalized roadmap for others to help them on their road to success. I wanted to blend modern astrology with ancient Arabic astrological techniques; it’s actually what initially attracted me to the Middle East. There’s nothing more exciting than following in the curious footsteps of the Arab world’s most enquiring minds and brilliant scholars or discovering zodiacal symbolism in museums and galleries that were a part of everyday life for thousands of years. The older generation in the UAE still fish and plant by the stars. I wanted others to harness the potential of what has been handed down from generation to generation and is still preserved in its most unadulterated form in our region. Arab mathematicians, philosophers, and explorers were so far ahead of their time in their accuracy, as we still see today in their earliest astrological and astronomical observations.
My daily routine consists of…
KL: Fresh coffee to kick-start my morning, of course, followed by morning exercise—usually a 20-minute yoga session and meditation. I check my astrological ephemeris for planetary movements to see what the general mood of the day is. Then, I prepare my astrological interpretations and forecasts. I like to have a clear and organized space to live and work, so I’m always cleaning as I go. I find it therapeutic. I like to work predominantly in seclusion, like some mad scientist. I don’t have fixed hours or days; I tend to work irregular hours due to time zones. I love to connect with my amazing circle of friends and family every day in some way, shape, or form, especially my 87-year-old dad, who is always up for a chat about the universe, science, and technology. His mind is so knowing. I like to strike up random conversations with strangers and talk to animals if they pause too long in my vicinity. I’m interested in everything; everyone has a story. I get especially tired after an astrology reading, so I usually find myself needing a lie-down or sleeping a little longer after an intense session. I love to watch the sun come up and go down if I can.
The biggest hurdle I have experienced in my career…
KL: Has been overcoming outdated belief systems set down by culture, religion, or education. There will always be skeptics (who often happen to know their zodiac sign but don’t know how many times the moon orbits the Earth). More women than men believe in astrology, possibly due to their monthly cycles and the birthing process. Lawyers, doctors, and business owners are my fastest-growing demographic. Older people have a deeper interest because, at some stage, they are more likely to question why life turned out the way it did.
Always be cautious of anyone who makes you feel fearful, overly dependent on their services, or who claims to have “secret” knowledge that only they can provide. Today, there is a plethora of charlatans flooding social media for a quick buck. A reputable astrologer should be clear about their methods, pricing, and what to expect from a session. I have a substantial track record, including years of experience and a portfolio of work or client testimonials. I am usually found by word of mouth. IYKYK.
The biggest milestone I have achieved…
KL: Predicting the unseen or unknown for my clients and hearing that it actually happened. Believe me, even I shake my head.
A quote I live by…
KL: The race is long, but in the end, it is only with yourself.
What I hope for in 2025 is…
KL: I plan to leverage the upcoming, unprecedented sign changes of Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune—all in the same year—to write a book. It would also be thrilling to see astrology professionally integrated into the corporate environment, aligning with Dubai’s tradition of being a trailblazer. I am also working with Harley Street doctors and mental health practitioners on setting up something with them in the UK.
