Despite ‘Year in Review’ compilations charting the sartorial rise of fashion’s biggest trends, Beyoncé has used her platform to prove the reign of micro shorts has only just begun.

Over the weekend in France, the Grammy Award winner put a Renaissance touch on the trend du jour in a pair of iridescent hot pants from Prada. Keeping within her signature metallic colour palette, Beyoncé opted for a Champagne hue—a tactical move considering she wore the ensemble to attend JAY-Z’s 54th birthday party in Bordeaux.

Given the musician’s recent preoccupation with her multi-million dollar grossing tour, Beyoncé’s delay in giving this silhouette her stamp of approval is entirely understandable. But as we, and the nearly 3 million people who engaged in her post, agree, the look was worth waiting for.

As the adage goes; A queen is never late, everyone else is simply early.

It’s fitting that Beyoncé chose a Miuccia Prada design, given that Mrs Prada is solely responsible for reviving this trend through Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection. However, this isn’t the 42-year-old’s first foray into the realm of body-sculpting shorts.

As you’ll recall, Beyoncé’s penchant for this skin-tight staple began back in 2005 when she wore a pair of low-rise indigo denim shorts for her “Crazy In Love” music video. Most recently, Beyoncé chose negligible frayed denim for her “Homecoming” performance at the 2018 Coachella Music Festival.

On this occasion, Beyoncé eschewed the entertainer’s theatrics and looked to opulent glamour to ring in her husband’s next lap around the sun. To do so, the mother-of-three paired her bottoms with a sheer turtleneck, calf-grazing grey fur coat and white stiletto pumps.

Not the typical grape stomping attire you’d typically see at a vineyard, but an era-defining look nonetheless.
