A luxury brand with deep roots in the region, Omani fragrance house Amouage has long been synonymous with elegance, mystery and timeless craftsmanship.
Now, its latest launch, The Essences, takes time itself as a muse. This trio of perfumes, Reasons, Lustre, and Outlands, explores a sensory journey through the past, present, and future, using innovative infusion techniques and ingredients that evolve slowly to bring depth to each scent.
Three New Fragrances to Explore
Each perfume within The Essences collection is designed to reveal the complexity that only time can bring. The scents undergo a pioneering double-infusion process, where the alcohol ages in oakwood barrels handcrafted by French artisans, imparting an earthy, rounded depth to each note. Meanwhile, sandalwood chips from ancient trees in Australia were used to infuse the perfume concentrate, adding a rich, woody character. This layered process deepens the olfactory profile of each scent.
Amouage’s Chief Creative Officer, Renaud Salmon, described the line as an “exploration of the transformative power of time”.

First in the line, Reasons, crafted by the celebrated perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour, encapsulates the wisdom of the past. Its opening of warm hazelnut and cardamom is both inviting and grounded, leading to a heart of patchouli and Palo Santo.
With smoky, earthy notes, the fragrance exudes a sense of reverence and remembrance, reflecting the lasting impact of our journeys on who we are today. Duchaufour described his creation as “an endless vibration, sending waves rippling through the ages”.

In contrast, Lustre expresses the immediacy and allure of the present. Created by perfumers Julien Rasquinet and Paul Guerlain, the second piece in the collection, Lustre opens with a spark of cardamom, unfolding into a soft, creamy orris heart.
Sandalwood provides a smooth, grounding quality, while the base of vanilla lends a lingering warmth. The fragrance is meant to capture the paradox of the present, a fleeting moment that feels infinite. “We wanted to create a light that is brilliant, sparkling, and breath-taking,” the perfumers said, “ever-present, yet always on the verge of disappearing.”

The final addition in the collection, Outlands embodies the magnetic charm of the future. Crafted by Cecile Zarokian, this fragrance opens with bright citruses and a hint of spice, leading to an intricate patchouli heart that feels both earthy and mysterious. As the scent develops, a blend of amber, oud, and resin represents the mystique that defines the future. Zarokian described Outlands as “an invitation to venture beyond the known”.
Amouage Treats Us to Entirely New Packaging
The launch also revealed an entirely new bottle design the house has unveiled in over 15 years. The design of The Essences bottle reflects Amouage’s dedication to time-honoured craftsmanship. Designed over five years, the glass packaging was inspired by ancient apothecary jars, but with a modern twist. The sand-coloured ceramic ridges echo the sands of Oman, while the iconic twelve-pointed shield of Amouage is subtly integrated into the design, representing both heritage and the ever-turning clock of time. At the front, an enamel plaque displays the Amouage logo and each perfume’s name.
With The Essences launching in November 2024, Amouage invites you to explore time through fragrance. Each perfume tells a story: Reasons is warm and grounding, like memories we hold close, Lustre embraces the present, and Outlands is a glimpse of the unknown, with bright citruses and amber. As you discover the line yourself, Salmon’s vision is quite clear: to remind us of the beauty of patience and the richness that only time provides.
