Hair is power. Hair is confidence. These are only some of the wisdoms shared by Sam McKnight at GRAZIA’s exclusive masterclass.

On November 6th, GRAZIA had the privilege of hosting award-winning celebrity hairstylist Sam McKnight for a hairstyling and product masterclass. Located at the newly opened Studio 152 at Marsa Boulevard, a multi-functional space for art, culture and discussion, it was the perfect space to host Sam and his hit products.

Sam took the stage for an intimate and exclusive conversation with Olivia Morris, GRAZIA editor, sharing his story and shining a light on his product label.

The masterclass not only celebrated Sam’s brilliant talent and career, but also the launch of his hair label Hair by Sam McKnight in the region. In partnership with Powder Beauty, an e-commerce platform bringing the world’s best beauty-conscious products to the region, Hair by Sam McKnight is now available for the first time in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Starting his hairdressing career in the 1970s, Sam moved to London to pursue his passion. Landing a spot at the prestigious Molton Brown salon, his career started to take off. Establishing himself as a stylist, Sam became known for ‘stylist sessions’ and working on photoshoots. At the time, most models were doing their own hair for shoots, and many questioned how successful stylist sessions would be. But believing in himself and his path, in 1978, Sam landed his first job for the cover of Vogue, and the rest was history.

Having worked with a star-studded line-up: Lady Gaga, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Cate Blanchett, and many more, Sam is truly a hair icon. The people’s princess herself, Princess Diana, was a major fan of Sam, trusting him and his vision with her hair. He was the princess’ personal hairstylist for seven years, and cut her hair for an iconic 1990 Vogue cover shoot that redefined hair in that era, inspiring generations of women to ask their hairdressers for the same.

More icon stories include Kate Moss’ famous ‘bedhead’ and Lady Gaga’s wig frenzy.

After more than 40 years of working in the industry, Sam felt there was a need on the market for products that were easy to use, made an instant impact, and most importantly, could be brushed out of the hair. He went through years of photoshoots and shows where models arrived with pounds of product in their hair that needed to be washed out before he could work his magic. This guided him to Hair by Sam McKnight’s philosophy: functional first and ‘brush-out-able’. The idea: products that everyone can use with impressive results, with the bonus that models no longer need a hair wash to be runway-ready.

The label officially launched its first four products in 2017. Sam took to the backstage area of London Fashion Week to introduce his label to the world. Now, the label has several different product ranges, suitable for all hair-care and styling needs, whether it is scalp-care, volume boosting, or repairing damaged ends. Both preventing and the solution to any bad hair day.

Today, Hair by Sam McKnight is the haircare label behind some of the most iconic looks in fashion. His best-selling line, ‘Cool Girl’, was inspired by his work with Kate Moss. Achieving Kate’s iconic ‘bedhead’ look is now easier than ever, with the ‘Cool Girl Barely There Texture Spray’, giving centimetres of volume in just seconds. Attention hair-enthusiasts! You can now get ‘Cool Girl’ and the whole Hair by Sam McKnight range, straight from your mobile phone to your bathroom counter through Powder Beauty.
