Since stepping down as senior members of the royal family in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have remained relatively candid about raising their two young children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. Earlier this week during a rare appearance in the United Kingdom, the 40-year-old continued this streak by sharing never-before-heard insights about the littlest Sussexes.
While speaking at the annual WellChild Awards, a charity he is a patron of, the Duke reportedly told the intimate crowd about the unexpected trait Meghan Markle passed on to the youngsters. At an initial glance, you might think that Prince Harry would’ve gushed about one of the many archetypes the former Suits actress possesses.
Instead, he revealed that both Prince Archie and Princess Lilbet were “blessed” with Markle’s “thick hair”. As per Hello! Prince Harry “told [guests] self-effacingly, as he marvelled that it won’t be long until [Princess Lilibet] can sit on hers”.
Royalists haven’t been afforded a glimpse at the growing Californian-based heirs since they appeared in their parent’s 2022 Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan. A photo shared that same year of ‘Petite Lili’, as the couple call her, celebrating her birthday revealed that she also sported Prince Harry’s ginger hair colouring.
The Spare author noted during a 2023 appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that “the Spencer gene is very, very strong,” referencing the auburn colouring he bequeathed to his son and daughter through Princess Diana’s family.
“I really, genuinely thought at the beginning of my relationship [with Markle] that, should this go the distance and we have kids, there’s no way the ginger gene will stand up to my wife’s genes, but I was wrong,” he added.
Markle also offered a never-before-heard tidbit about the toddler during their recent visit to Colombia. During a talk, the American Riviera Orchard founder revealed that Princess Lilibet had “absolutely found her voice” and that she and Prince Harry were “so proud of that”.
The pair are also reportedly planning to debut their children in an official capacity in the near future. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for them—and their luscious locks!
