Every year in May, the biggest names in showbusiness descend upon the French Riviera for the famed Cannes Film Festival. The go-to hotel for all the A-listers? Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes.
Nestled in the vibrant heart of the Côte d’Azur, this spot is more than just a hotel, it’s a timeless sanctuary which has a history dating back over 100 years. The seaside haven of Cannes itself has a legendary tale behind it, dating back to the 19th century, when a British aristocrat stumbled upon the sleepy fishing town. The individual in question was Lord Brougham, a prominent figure in British high society and its government, who was drawn to Cannes’ gentle Provençal way of life. Purchasing a plot of land, he began to make Cannes his winter home, influencing many of the upper crust of British society to do the same.
A little under a century after Lord Brougham’s serendipitous encounter with the town, the Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes made its way to the shores of the South of France. Founded by Henri Ruhl in 1924, the palatial Art Deco retreat paved the way for the splendour and allure of the Boulevard de la Croisette. With 250 opulent rooms adorned with the finest materials, reception rooms painted by the illustrious Francis Di Signori and monumental staircases crafted from Carrara marble, it was – and remains – a hotel that oozes grandeur.
Throughout its storied history, this iconic establishment has welcomed royalty, nobility and Hollywood’s biggest stars, solidifying its status as the five-star retreat during the Cannes Film Festival and the entirety of the summer season. Here, amid the timeless elegance and unrivalled hospitality, guests are transported to a realm where every indulgence is met with grace and every moment is steeped in luxury.

In 2024, Hotel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes still has the quintessential charm of its bygone era, albeit with many 21st-century upgrades. The hotel now boasts over 305 rooms, the majority of which overlook the Mediterranean Sea and the Croisette. Of these, 23 are ultra-luxury suites, many of which are themed, including ‘Christian Dior’, ‘Riviera’ and ‘Suite Horizon’. But the crème de la crème of the hotel has to be the Suite Majestic – the penthouse. Boasting an expansive indoor space of 4,840sq ft and an outdoor area of 1,076sq ft, complete with its own rooftop pool, this suite is arguably the beacon of the hotel, with anyone who stays there being crowned as Croisette royalty.
Hand-in-hand with its A-list accommodation is an opulent cuisine offering, namely in the form of famed 1899 Parisian brasserie Fouquet’s. Featuring a delectable menu ideal for lunch or dinner, as well as a cocktail menu curated by Emanuele Balestra to rival that of the world’s best bars, the restaurant becomes the stars’ go-to spot during the Cannes Film Festival. If you’re lucky to stay at the hotel during peak season, you’re
likely to spot a celebrity (or 10…). Off-property, you’ll find the private beach club, La Plage Barrière Le Majestic, as well as two other gastronomic beachside offerings – Paradiso Nicole & Pierre’s Mediterranean cuisine, and beach restaurant BFire by Mauro Colagreco.

By way of relaxation, Spa Diane Barrière ticks all the boxes, and then some. With a slew of treatments for the face and body, the spa uses products from one of the most luxurious French skincare brands, Biologique Recherche, ensuring that every guest leaves red-carpet-ready.
