Blessed day beauty devotees, for perennial dreamgirl Zoë Kravitz has bestowed a great gift upon us – her entire ‘no makeup’ makeup routine, from primer to pout. “I really think that beauty starts from within – from your health, your gut, your beauty routine, your skin routine, being hydrated – and then you don’t have to use makeup to like, cover yourself up. You can use it to highlight,” says the High Fidelity star of her beauty philosophy in a new video.

After skincare and SPF, Kravitz begins with Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer ($46) to minimise shine. “After putting on lots of serum, we’re nice and dewy, which we love – but there are some places that we don’t want to be dewy and we have to matte it,” she says, only applying “a little bit” to target certain areas such as the sides of her nose, between her brows and under her eyes.

Then the 32-year-old, who says she doesn’t wear foundation “on a daily basis”, opts for a little concealer to “balance things out”. As the face of the brand, Kravitz loves the iconic YSL Beauty Touche Éclat Radiant Touch Highlighter Pen ($72) because “it’s light and brightens things up” under the eyes and around the sides of her nose. She also applies a small amount to any spots on her cheeks and jawline, buffing it all in with her fingers.

Kravitz then fills in her brows, admitting that while she loves how thick and full they are now, she was prone to over-plucking in her teens. “My mum yelled at me… and I’m so glad she did [because] they grew back; I’m really lucky.” She uses the YSL Beauty Couture Brow Slim ($51) pencil to start “in the middle and not the front, to control the shape and you don’t want the front to be too heavy.”

“I love makeup, I think it’s a literal art form,” she says, revealing that she typically prefers a more minimal approach. “There are all different kinds of makeup, and everyone finds their own style, but I do like to try to encourage people – and I say this all the time – to enhance the things that you love and not try to change your face completely or reshape your face completely. Sometimes it’s fun to do that, but everyone is so pretty in their own way.”

After brushing through her brows with a spoolie, Kravitz then uses a tiny touch of brown eyeliner to open up the eye area. She adds an almost imperceptible wing to the very outer corner, using her finger to smudge the edges, before slicking a bit through her waterline.

She then applies a small amount of Nudestix’ Nudies Matte All Over Face Color Blush & Bronze in Sunkissed ($49) to the apples of her cheeks and her eyelids to create a natural finish. Next is Pat McGrath Labs’ Skin Fetish Highlighter & Balm Duo ($79) which the actor dabs over her cheekbones and in the inner corners of her eyes. She then goes over the highlighter with the balm side of the stick to add to the glowy effect, explaining that she fell in love with ‘no makeup’ makeup after playing mostly bare-faced characters on screen.

Kravitz then defines her pout with the Marc Jacobs Beauty (P)outliner Longwear Lip Pencil ($37), starting “soft but then slowly build… I like a pouty lip,” she adds, concentrating the colour in the centre of her lips to make “a cute little shape” before blending with her finger. A gentle pat of YSL Beauty’s Rouge Pur Couture Slim Matte Lipstick ($62) in a neutral pink shade over the lips then finishes the look.
