In the grand scheme of the annual awards season, the NAACP Image Awards – which recognises winners across television and streaming, music, literature, film and podcasts – is small but fashionably mighty. Queen of the red carpet Zendaya (who was nominated for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Malcolm and Marie) did not attend the photo call but rather tuned in virtually to the show. However, it didn’t stop the actress from two incredible couture looks.

Courtesy of award-winning stylist Law Roach, the Euphoria star appeared on her Instagram stories in a haute couture embellished Valentino mini paired with a slouchy white coat and white pumps.

It was followed by a voluminous vintage 1956 Balmain gown in jewel tones of red and green as well as slivers of black. “And then THIS happened…. @zendaya in vintage @balmain for @naacpimageawards a thank you @olivier_rousteing for letting us into the archives ❤️💚🖤 Could there have been a more perfect dress???,” Roach published to social media. The look was accessorised with Bulgari jewellery.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that beau Tom Holland was number one STAN for the actress overnight, commenting on Zendaya’s own re-post of the famous gown, writing, “First”. The cheeky comment has already garnered 98,000 likes.

It is not the first time Zendaya has opted for iconic vintage looks. Most recently for the premiere of Euphoria season 2, she appeared on the black carpet in a Valentino Spring/Summer 1992 gown. At the 21st Annual BET Awards Zendaya wore a Versace Spring/Summer 2003 look which was also famously worn by Beyoncé.

Zendaya and Holland made their red carpet debut at the 2021 Ballon d’Or Awards in Paris in December where she was also wearing vintage Robert Cavalli from the Fall 2000 collection.

The NAACP Image Awards serve as the prelude to today’s 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Stay tuned for ongoing coverage.
