Straight up materials are seriously SO last season. It’s time to add a plastic vibe to your favourite colour block. One of the less predictable looks on the Autumn/Winter runways was also one of the simplest to execute: chic waterproofing.

After all, when you’ve spent countless minutes planning the perfect outfit, why cover it to ward off the showers we’re currently experiencing in Australia’s spring?

Subscribing to this season’s mantra that ‘more means more’, Emilio Pucci creative director Massimo Giorgetti added strips of diamanté studding to his (layered over ‘70s-print velvet pants no less). Get your bedazzler gun ready.

At Calvin Klein, Raf Simons found a way to protect a delicate, feather-embellished sheer shift dress: encase it in cellophane-look clear plastic. On an equally practical note, he sent Liya Kibede down the runway in a smoke-hued raincoat that sat over her long check jacket like a glove, off-set by equally out-there clear stilettos. Right behind her, Julia Nobis’s see-through plastic coat was belted with a diamanté rope.

Miuccia Prada even threw in an orange plastic rain hat to compliment her clear coats with black piping at Miu Miu. As all three designers know, you never can be too transparent with your intentions.
