Fans of “Normal People” star Daisy Edgar-Jones, this one is for you. Overnight Sony Pictures released the highly-anticipated trailer to Where The Crawdad Sings, a captivating thriller murder mystery based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Delia Owens.

For the uninitiated, the book tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect.

Where the Crawdads Sing stars Edgar-Jones (Normal People) as “Kya Clark,” Taylor John Smith (Sharp Objects) as “Tate Walker,” Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man) as “Chase Andrews,” Michael Hyatt (Snowfall) as “Mabel,” Sterling Macer, Jr. (Double Down) as “Jumpin’,” and David Strathairn (Nomadland) as “Tom Milton.” Olivia Newman (First Match) directs the screenplay by Lucy Alibar (Beasts of the Southern Wild) based upon the novel. The 3000 Pictures film is being produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.

“I fell so deeply in love with the world that Delia created, she has such a poetry to her writing. And her characters are so incredibly special, and deep and complex — particularly Kya, of course,” said Edgar-Jones in a video on Instagram. “I would describe Kya as fiercely resilient, wonderfully curious and strong. And I just feel so privileged and excited to be playing her.”

Edgar-Jones was catapulted to fame after her role in the series adaption of Sally Rooney’s novel, Normal PeopleShe just recently starred alongside Sebastian Stan in the Disney thriller, Fresh

The high-octane trailer also features a new original song from Taylor Swift. The film will be released exclusively in cinemas globally from July 14, 2022.
