1. Taylor Swift’s High Heels

Though stilettos are synonymous with date night, Swifties are aware of how integral the concept of “high heels” are to the songstress’ lexicon.

In Swift’s 2012 song “Begin Again”, the musician sang “He didn’t like it when I wore high heels, But I do.” Given this poignant lyric, paired with the fact Swift hardly wore heeled footwear with her ex-boyfriends, fans of the singer are interpreting this sartorial decision to mean she’s embracing her vulnerable side and comfortable being herself around Kelce.

2. Travis Kelce’s Sneakers

Kelce’s footwear of choice, sneakers, could also be in reference to the 2008 single “You Belong With Me”, where Swift sings about wearing sneakers while being on the bleachers. The music video for that single also featured Swift falling for her football player neighbour, and with Swift frequenting the member’s box at Kelce’s stadium games, this fashion choice could be harnessing deeper meaning than first discerned.

3. Travis Kelce’s Cardigan

“Cardigan” is one of Swift’s biggest singles of all time, debuting as number one on the global Spotify songs chart with over 7.742 million streams, which, during 2020, was the biggest opening day for a song on the platform.

So, Kelce choosing to wear a folkloric cardigan-style jacket—the album “Cardigan” is featured on—is by no means a coincidence.

Kelce’s outwear also features a handful of illustrated birds. The avian motif is one Swifies associates with the Grammy Award winners 1989 era, with the re-recording of the 2014 album cover art even featuring Swift on a beach surrounded by five seagulls.

Given that 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is next to be released in her re-recording process, with the album coming out on October 27th, could this be Kelce’s way of inadvertently showing allegiance to the upcoming release?

4. Taylor Swift’s “Reputation” Corset

The most glaringly obvious reference in Swift’s date-night outfit is what Swifties are calling a Reputation-themed corset. The boned, lingerie-style piece from Versace leans into the dark visual imagery of the 2017 album, leading fans to believe this is Swift’s surreptitious way of signalling this will be the next album to be re-recorded.

Plus, with Reputation one of Swift’s few remaining pieces of work with masters owned by Shamrock Holdings—the private equity firm that purchased Swift’s first six albums from Scooter Braun for a reported USD$405 million in 2020—their theory could check out.

Indeed, Taylor Swift is a mastermind who is dressing for revenge.
