Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have ended their relationship after six years together.
As learned by Entertainment Tonight, the pair called it quits a few weeks ago, in what was reportedly an amicable split. According to a source, the relationship “had just run its course,” and was “not dramatic.”
People Magazine also confirmed the news through a source close to the couple. But neither they nor anyone from their respective teams has commented publicly on the revelation.
Swift, 33, and Alwyn, 32, began dating in 2016, and though they’ve managed to keep much of their relationship private, it’s been thought that the two were still going strong. Some fans were even convinced that they had actually wed in secret thanks to clues in her Folklore and Evermore albums.
As she embarks on her groundbreaking Eras Tour across the US, fans raised concerns over Alwyn’s absence at his partner’s big moment, but news reports suggested that the actor had a scheduling conflict. The singer may have hinted at the split in her trademark Easter egg way when she made a last-minute change-up to her setlist.
For her Arlington, Texas concert, the Nashville native replaced ‘Invisible String’, a song about fate bringing two people together, with ‘The 1’, a breakup song that includes lyrics, ‘But we were something, don’t you think so?.. And if my wishes came true, It would’ve been you.’
Having met in 2016 at the Met Gala, Swift and the Conversations with Friends actor began dating that October and lived together in North London for a time before eventually relocating to the US.
While Swift has been open about her romantic life in the past, she kept her relationship with Alwyn on the down low from the beginning. However, she has let it be known how content she was with a romance out of the spotlight. “I think that in knowing him and being in the relationship I am in now,” she said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “I have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real life and less like just a storyline to be commented on in tabloids.”
