Taylor Swift is one of those polarising celebrities who people usually either love or hate with those in the latter camp citing reasons such as, “She’s just annoying” for grounds to dislike a successful woman who routinely stands up for women’s and artist’s rights.

While it may sound like I’m firmly in the opposing team – the Swift team – I am one of the rare exceptions who neither like, nor dislike Swift. I appreciate that she’s very good at what she does and move along. But one thing that seems to tug at my heartstrings every so often is the fact that she’s finally found her One after years of dating and heartbreak.

High-profile relationships with Harry Styles, John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston led Swift to veer in the opposite direction when it comes to Joe Alwyn, the 28-year-old actor she’s been quietly dating for three years. During that time, the two have never posted about each other on social media – save for the one time Swift endorsed her boyfriend’s film, The Favourite, on Instagram – nor walked a red carpet. The only photos of them are blurry paparazzi pictures when they sneak out the back of events.

Well aware of the public’s interest in their relationship, both sides generally stay tight-lipped about their private life. But in a rare interview, Alwyn has thrown us a bone. Albeit an incredibly small one.

During an interview with the Times, Alwyn touches on his relationship with Swift very briefly, denying reports that she owns a private jet so she can fly to see him whenever she wants – he says 99 per cent of what is written about them is false – and touching on how he feels about being the inspiration behind her songs. Swift’s new album, Lover, is written about Alwyn.

“It’s flattering,” Alwyn said when prompted about what he thinks of Swift writing songs about him, saying “no, not at all,” when asked if he minds being her inspiration.

Of the constant media attention surrounding their relationship, Alwyn says, “I just don’t pay attention to what I don’t want to pay attention to. I turn everything else down on a dial. I don’t have any interest in tabloids. I know what I want to do, and that’s this, and that’s what I am doing.”

After being spotted together leaving the Cats premiere in London, Alwyn confirmed that Swift will be spending the days leading up to Christmas him and his family in the UK to support the released of his new BBC mini-series A Christmas Carol.
