May 21, 2021: NYC-based womenswear label Tanya Taylor dabbled in swimwear last year, collaborating with the Insta-famous brand Summersalt on a limited-edition capsule. This year, the fashion girl-favourite wisely decided to launch its very own line of swimsuits, inspired by the Canadian fashion designer’s childhood summers in Barbados. Taylor’s debut swimwear collection is part one of two, the second of which launches in November.
The first swimwear drop features the label’s signature bold and summery patterns. Taylor designed the two one-pieces and two bikinis with elements from her bestselling dresses, adding eye-catching details: wrap-around straps, smocking, and adjustable ties. Better yet, the collection includes sarongs and a matching beach bag and hat to perfect your vacay vibe. It’s born to mix and match with the brand’s SS21 Ready-to-Wear collection so that you can easily transition from Zoom meetings to the pool.
The designer teamed up with local artisans in Thailand to skillfully produce eco-friendly Italian fabric made from 78 percent recycled multifilament polyamide (AKA, a more eco-conscious version of nylon). Pieces in the collection are carefully hand-painted with a technique popular during the abstract expressionist art movement called “pigment splash,” which Taylor also used in her Summer 2021 collection. To achieve the intricate designs, the Tanya Taylor design team sprinkled dye powder onto melting ice placed on fabric to produce the breathtaking one-of-a-kind designs we need to brighten up a post quarantine world.
Finally, Taylor wanted to make sure the collection was size-inclusive. Each distinctive style is available from XS – 3X, and, per the brand, each design and size offers a comfortable fit. Shop the Tanya Taylor Swimwear collection below.
