The understated luxury of St. Agni has quietly evolved in the two years the label has shown at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week. Following on from a previous collection of beautifully-made basic and wardrobe staples – the brand even found a way into the trend-driven closet of Kendall Jenner – St. Agni has entered a new sartorial rebellion for Resort 2023.

Set on a stark white runway St. Agni stroke a sartorial balance of ’90s minimalism and resort wear, aptly set to sounds from multi-instrumentalist, James Domeyko.

Alongside familiar cuts like the relaxed blazer and wide-legged pants was a nod to the low waistlines that have begun to creep back into our wardrobes. Glittering lurex and sheer silky fabrications were a welcomed addition, alongside the brand’s favoured use of GOTS-certified linen and crisp BCI-certified cotton.

“Resort ’23 really resonates with my own nostalgia of the 90s,” design duo Lara and Matt Fells told GRAZIA. “Strongly referencing the unpretentious minimalism of the era, this collection brings back fond memories of my first introduction to fashion, reading magazines, and beginning to grow my personal love for dressing and style. We wanted to be more adventurous with cuts and details which show off the softness of masculinity, and the strength of femininity in this collection, and as part of a conversation we are continuing internally, we want to celebrate the intimacy of sharing clothes.”

The low-rise slip skirt was a prolific inclusion within the collection and was paired with strapless boob tubes – yes, they’re back – and bikini tops, while the bodycon dress received an elevated treatment in luxurious fabrics. The blazer we’ve come to know and love from St. Agni cuts a more snug fit and features an open back this season. Elsewhere, smaller cutouts in swimwear and slip dresses are laced together with resin hoops.

“Mirroring a boundary-pushing mentality synonymous with 90s rebellion, a more risqué St. Agni collection felt reflective of where we are currently. Fundamentally we will always be the elevated, everyday luxury brand, but it is a new dawn where we are free to have fun and celebrate living again, so Resort 23 is our interpretation of that.”

St. Agni hails from the idyllic coastal town of Byron Bay in northern New South Wales where much of the surrounding region suffered from devastating floods in 2022. In addition to two-years of lockdown, it’s clear people need to dress up. St. Agni is leading that charge.
