Star prints have been scattered across runways for several years now, but this season the biggest space references were far more literal.

In what was the biggest theatrical event of Paris Fashion Week, master of the dramatic moment Karl Lagerfeld incorporated a giant CC-branded rocket that took off during the finale. The reference was just as blatant in his clothes: astronaut prints on chiffon dresses, silver lame fabrics, holographic finishes and glitter boots that screamed intergalactic goddess.

Astral motifs were also spotted at Isabel Marant and Chloe, as were futuristic sterling silver fabrics at the likes of Alexander McQueen, Michael Kors, Bottega Veneta, Christopher Kane, Comme de Garcons and Proenza Schouler.

The unofficial winner of this season’s space race though was New York designer Nick Graham, who sent epic moonwalker Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin, now age 87, down his runway for a collection titled Life On Mars.

Off the runway, metallic finishes and futuristic details are the easiest way to tick the trend IRL, as is silver footwear. (Hot tip: glitter shoes are the new statement earring.) Top of our lust list? This lacquered spaceship chain bag, set to be the season’s most coveted novelty carry-all.
