Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello’s marriage of seven years is officially over, with the actors announcing in a statement released on July 17 their plans to divorce.

The news came just hours after sources confirmed fellow Hollywood couple, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez, had separated earlier in the year.

The announcement came via PageSix, with Vergara and Manganiello revealing the reason for the separation and their requests for privacy as they navigate the next chapter of their lives, one that is separate from one another.

“We have made the difficult decision to divorce,” the statement read. “As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of [sic] our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives,” it continued.

According to an anonymous source, the former couple had been “growing apart” and are currently seeking space to “take some distance from each other to contemplate their future”.

The Modern Family alumni is currently gallivanting around Italy to celebrate her 51st birthday, with the star sparking rumours of a divorce after departing for the trip without her wedding ring—and her husband.

Vergara and Manganiello were last spotted together in New Jersey earlier in the year, with the actress visiting the 46-year-old on the set of his new project.

Vergara and Manganiello wed in 2015 at a lavish, floral-adorned ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida. For the occasion, Vergara wore a Princess-style custom Zuhair Murad Couture wedding dress.

The former couple had a quintessential Hollywood love story, after meeting in 2014 at the annual star-studded White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Vergara was engaged to her ex-fiancé, Nick Loeb, at the time.

Vergara and Manganiello officially started dating months after their initial encounter, with Manganeillo proposing to Vergara on Christmas Eve of that year in Hawaii. The pair walked down the aisle 11 months later.

The announcement coincides with the end of Vergara’s lavish Italian holiday, with the star writing on social media nine hours before the news was announced: “Last days of vacay! Even when u r so hot I love u Ravello!!!😁😁”

The pair haven’t issued any update about their living situation, but with Manganiello currently residing in the East Coast and Vergara living la dolce vita, it’s clear the space they’re seeking is indeed inevitable.
