The new wave of slip dresses this season are making us wonder why we ever parted ways with this truly ’90s style staple in the first place. This easy silhouette is becoming new again with a crop of fresh takes on the lingerie-as-outerwear trend and there’s no complaints here – boudouir elegance means you basically get away with wearing your PJs outside.

Evidence can be seen via Rosie Hungtington Whitely and Rihanna’s renewed red carpet interest in slinky silk or velvet versions. Step it into the colder months with (you guessed it) layers and more layers. Our favourite way to dress the slip down is to layer atop a simple white tee or a stripy turtle neck. Or double-down on the ’90s feels even more and follow Kim K’s lead by topping with a bomber. Purposeful shoulder-baring shrug: optional.
