Believe me, we never like to hear of a breakup, but last month’s split between Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello means two things. One, Mendes is back on the market and two, a fresh breakup album courtesy of the artist could be coming soon. The “Stitches” singer dropped a surprise single today dubbed, “It’ll Be Okay”.
The slow ballad was released onto streaming services while a lyric video was published to YouTube so we can really dissect the words. In the chorus Mendes sings, “We don’t have to stay/ I will love you either way / It’ll be OK.”
He also sings, “I start to imagine a world where we don’t collide/ It’s making me sick but we’ll heal and the sun will rise.”
A source for E! News told the publication that the 23-year-old “initiated the conversation” for the split but it “wasn’t a bad breakup at all”. “The relationship was getting stale and complacent,” the insider told the outlet. “And they decided they are better off being friends.”
The couple split just two weeks ago. On their respective social media accounts Mendes and Cabello wrote, “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started out relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward.”
The couple began dating in July 2019 following the release of their music video “Señorita” the month prior.
Cabello seems to be doing her best to move on too. Shortly following the announcement she appeared on social media with an incredible glow up. The “Havana” singer’s usual brown hair was swapped for minty locks and glassy eye makeup to match. It didn’t seem to be permanent though with the Cinderella star appearing on social media days later as a brunette.
