Thought neon-dressing was dead? Think again! The retina-searing trend, which made an unforeseen comeback earlier in the year, is alive and most certainly kicking in the form of Selena Gomez. Arriving at the American Music Awards in a lime green Versace number replete with matching lime green Stuart Weitzman pumps (and Roberto Coin Cento Diamond Necklace), Gomez has not only made us rethink shocking colour, but also proves the power of monochrome dressing.
Styled by Kate Young, the strapless micro mini dress, which featured sculptural side ruffling and Versace’s classic iconography – gold Medusa head buttons, served up a big dose of sartorial key lime pie, breathing new life into the trend of neon while kick-starting the movement for bright monochrome colour.
The brilliant, sheeny shade of chartreuse, or rather Young’s monochromatic interpretation of it, recalled the all-out colour from the Spring / Summer 2020 shows, where Sies Marjan, Staud and Sally LaPointe (along with a slew of others) presented one-colour wonders in saturated shades.
Considering we are in the throes of summer down under, now is the perfect time to indulge a little pine lime fantasy like Selena Gomez. Whether it’s blindingly good neon green or deeper hues of chartreuse, consider our zingy edit below, which, miraculously, all happens to be on sale.
