Selena Gomez may have substituted custom Saint Laurent on the Boulevard de la Croisette for Rebecca Vallance on the set of Only Murders in the Building in Manhattan, but the star hasn’t let her glitzy turn on the Côte d’Azur stop her from opening up about what truly matters to her: mental health, motherhood and Rare Beauty. (In no particular order).
Indeed, the 31-year-old, who recently won ‘Best Actress’ at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Emilia Pérez, opened up about her future hopes to start a family one day, explaining how her boyfriend, Benny Blanco, slightly derailed the plans she set for herself. When asked in a new profile if having a partner helps her navigate difficult periods in her life, the star explained that her relationship is a “little irrelevant” because he isn’t her only source of happiness.
“I was alone for five years, and I got really used to it,” she explained. “A lot of people are afraid of being alone and I probably tortured myself in my head for like two years being alone, and then I kind of accepted it.” The multi-hyphenate added that her spell of being single led her to formulate a strategy: “Adopt at 35 if I had not met anyone”.
Gomez continued to describe how she first met the music producer, explaining how their relationship was strictly platonic before she caught feelings for him. “It just happens when you least expect it,” she said. Blanco also recently opened up about his feelings towards Gomez, sharing that he wants to marry and have kids with her, but is taking their relationship “a day at a time”. “I just know that when I look at her, I just say, ‘I don’t know a world where it could be better than this.’ That’s what I always say to her,” he added.
Gomez echoed his sentiment: “I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”
