Not that Cartier ever scrimps on its annual party, but this year’s iteration was special on so many levels. Superstars and sports legends, movie directors and style icons – all mingling with the brand’s most VIP international guests and a spattering of very lucky media.

This year’s event, held for the first time in San Francisco, had two guests of honour: actor Jake Gyllenhaal and Santos de Cartier, the luxury watch he fronts the new global campaign for.

Befitting the edgy Pier 48 location, hundreds stars like Sienna Miller, Sofia Coppola, Idris Elba, Annabelle Wallis, Lily Collins, Liev Schreiber Chloe Sevigny, Freida Pinto, Lisa Bonet, Winne Harlow and David Lachapelle tapped the cocktail dress code before kicking up their heels to live performances from indie bands like Pheonix and Hot Chip, and singers Jamie XX and Wade Crescent.
