Ever since Rihanna announced her pregnancy by way of a pink puffer Chanel coat in February, we’ve been privy to every one of her spectacular style moments. From Celine denim to Dior lingerie and a Simone Rocha dress, no sartorial detail has been undisclosed. But amid the singer’s immaculate maternity style it seems we skimmed over exactly how A$AP Rocky went from friend-zoned to beau to baby daddy over the course of 18 months.
Rihanna is giving the people what they want (and need) this week after she revealed all the romantic details in a new cover interview.
“People don’t get out of the friend zone very easily with me,” she told the publication. “And I certainly took a while to get over how much I know him and how much he knows me, because we also know how much trouble we can land each other in.”
The trouble she is referring to is when Rocky grabbed her on the 2012 VMAs stage which was by the way, not rehearsed. She let it slide and they remained friends until the pair grew close in 2020 during the early stages of the pandemic. “He became my family in that time,” she said. The couple reportedly took a low-key road trip through the US following lockdown and not before long, he was introduced to her parents in Barbados.
“My mother has a really good read on people. She observes first and then she’ll move slowly. I guess I’m like that too,” Rihanna explained. “There are some guys that I’ve dated that she won’t even look at to this day. But she was charmed by him from the jump.”
The “Umbrella” star continued, explaining that the pregnancy wasn’t planned but that they were having fun and not “planning against it” either.
“And then it was just there on the test. I didn’t waste any time. I called him inside and showed him. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.”
