Congratulations are in order for singer Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky, as news broke moments ago that the couple are expecting their first child together.
Images emerged of the couple walking down the snowy streets of Harlem, the rapper’s hometown, with Rihanna’s baby bump attracting all of the attention. The Barbadian singer, 33, was photographed wearing a vintage Chanel coat, from their Autumn/Winter 1996 collection, paired with a Chanel belt and jewelled necklaces – stretching as far as her belly goes.
The couple have yet to release a statement, but we’re sure that the couple couldn’t be more ecstatic. Pregnancy rumours first emerged back in November, when Rihanna wore a tight-fitted dress when she accepted her National Hero of Barbados Award by Prime Minister Mia Mottley, but she denied the rumours.
Last year, Rocky, also 33, showed his excitement of being a father in an interview with GQ. “I think I’d be an incredible, remarkably overall amazing dad. I would have a very fly child. Very.” He also added that Rihanna was the “love of my life” and that he preferred being in a relationship over being single.
“[It’s] so much better,” he said. “So much better when you got the One. She amounts to probably, like, a million of the other ones. I think when you know, you know. She’s the One.”
In a 2019 red carpet interview with essence, Rihanna shared her desires to become a mother, saying she’d like to have a daughter.
“I’m a Black woman. I came from a Black woman, who came from a Black woman, who came from a Black woman and I’m going to give birth to a Black woman,” she told Essence. “It’s a no-brainer. That’s who I am. It’s the core of who I am in spirit and DNA.”
“[My mother is] an incredible example of how to fight through obstacles in life. I’m sure her mom taught her that and that’s how I’m going to be. We are impeccable, we’re special, and the world is going to have to deal with that.”
Rihanna and Rocky were longtime friends before things turned romantic in December 2020.
Is it safe to assume that they’ll be expecting a baby girl given the colour choice of Rihanna’s coat? Time will only tell. In the meantime, we can’t help but be overjoyed by the news.
