For recent bride Priyanka Chopra, her attention-grabbing wedding was a festival of numbers, in a fashion-sense at least: three days, two ceremonies, two incredible dresses, two pairs of Louboutin heels, 12 matching bridesmaids and one enormous 23-metre tulle veil. (See the latter yourself in this Instagram teaser…)

But it was the eight-strong list of words and phrases embroidered into the Ralph Lauren dress she wore for the Christian ceremony on December 1 at Umaid Bhawan Palace that was especially sweet.

Building on the sentiment of having her entire bridal party wear bespoke Ralph Lauren (Chopra and husband Nick Jonas met as guests of the brand at the Met Gala in New York), the actress asked for the special words – chosen by her for sentimental reasons – to be hand-embroidered into her beaded, scallop-sleeved white gown.

  1. Nicholas Jerry Jonas
  2. 1st December 2018 [their wedding day]
  3. Madhu and Ashok [Chopra’s parents]
  4. Om Namah Shivaya [a Hindi mantra of adoration to Lord Shiva]
  5. Family
  6. Hope
  7. Compassion
  8. Love

She then repeated the gesture on a smaller scale for the second part of her wedding festival, a Hindu ceremony on December 2, by having Nick and her parent’s names sewn into the waistband of her traditional Indian outfit.

“For the Indian wedding, I wore [Indian designer label] Sabyasachi,” the bride told People magazine. “I always knew I wanted a red traditional silhouette for my wedding but Sabya [designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee] brought in incredible French embroidery to the mix and with incredible jewellery and Western-inspired veil it was just such an amalgamation of who I am.”

Sentiment aside, Chopra – a self-confessed fashion aficionado – upped the glamour stakes by teaming both looks with Christian Louboutin heels. You can take the girl out Bollywood…
