Double denim is having a major moment right now, just take Dua Lipa’s vintage Dior trompe l’oeil jean print bikini and matching sarong birthday moment earlier this week as proof (paired with matching knee-high denim boots by the house). Or, for that matter, Nicole Kidman’s Diesel crop top, jeans and long-sleeve denim gloves in her just debuted, already iconic, photoshoot for Perfect Magazine.

Despite these high-fashion examples, at its core denim is a material that’s supposed to be wearable, comfortable and effortless: denim shorts you throw on all summer long, the perfect pair of jeans to match with a ‘nice top’ for a night out or a white baby tee during the day.

Including these factors into the mix, doesn’t mean denim can’t be stylish and sexy at the same time, as demonstrated by Rolla’s Jeans who tapped actress Phoebe Tonkin as their latest collaborator.

The Australian-born brand is no stranger to working with stylish women with previous partners including Bella Hadid, Devon Lee Carlson and Sofia Richie. Tapping Tonkin, who similarly hails from Australia, makes complete sense: The Vampire Diaries actress evokes effortless, natural style, something her 8.4 million Instagram followers have long revered her for.

Rolla’s x Phoebe Tonkin offers an elevated and comfortable approach to denim through a collection made up of staples: the aforementioned perfect shorts and jeans, a ribbed white baby tee, and Rolla’s signature corduroy, as well as the addition of fashion-forward pieces such as bootcut floral-patterned pants and a blue button-up mini dress.

Naturally, double denim makes a feature, thankfully, sans long-sleeve gloves and thigh-high boots: Tonkin’s laid-back approach is wearable ’70s-style flares and a denim vest.

For Tonkin, this collaboration was a chance to create a range that speaks to both her laid-back Australian upbringing and her current Californian lifestyle (she now calls sunny Los Angeles home). “I loved revisiting my Australian roots working with Rolla’s, I’ve been wearing their jeans for years,” Tonkin said of the partnership.

“And being able to shoot for such an iconic Aussie brand in my adopted hometown of LA was the perfect celebration of both where I started and where I am now.”
