This year, the BAFTAs look a little different. Just like every other awards ceremony, the British Academy Film Awards have gone almost completely digital, set across two nights (Saturday 10th April and Sunday 11th) to cater to the pandemic. Furthermore, two of the most prominent attendees, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate Middleton, won’t be making their usual appearance due to the death of Prince Philip, which was announced on Friday.
But the show must go on. While most nominees and guests are popping on their Sunday best for viewing parties at home, those who are presenting awards at the ceremony, such as Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, are at its usual location, the Royal Albert Hall, walking one very quiet red carpet.
Though the Instagram posts from virtual attendees showing off their at-home attire haven’t yet begun, one of the most notable fashion moments of the evening has already happened: the arrival of Bridgerton’s breakout star, Phoebe Dynevor.
Though she was watched by over 82 million people within one month of the popular period drama being aired on Netflix, Dynevor’s career skyrocketed in the middle of lockdown, meaning the BAFTA’s marks her first official red carpet appearance since the show’s release.
For the occasion, Dynevor opted for Louis Vuitton, wearing a chic one-shoulder floor-length black gown. She kept her beauty look simple—her hair in loose waves and makeup minimal, dewy and bronzed—and added a hint of colour with emerald green diamond earrings.
Just by looking at Dynevor’s Instagram over the past few months, it’s clear the 25-year-old has style, and tonight she proved she’s a fashion darling on the rise. Following in the footsteps of other new pandemic-adjacent faces, The Crown’s Emma Corrin, The Queen’s Gambit’s Anya Taylor-Joy and Instagram’s best breakout comedian, Ziwe.
With a successful show under her belt, a famous rumoured boyfriend—none other than SNL’s Pete Davidson—and the likes of Louis Vuitton ready and willing to dress her, it looks like 2021 is Phoebe Dynevor’s year. Let’s hope Lady Whistledown has her pen at the ready.
