LIP STICK BATTLE

Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele’s idiosyncratic idea of beauty was communicated loud and clear at the launch of the label’s new 58-strong lipstick collection. The campaign imagery was far from standard; instead, it was a subverted version of beauty – Michele’s version – complete with toothy smiles and less-than- perfect dental alignment to showcase the lipsticks in real life, worn on real people. As for the actual product, it’s divine both to look at and to wear. Pictured here is the Aouge à Lèvres voile lipstick – an ultra-light, perfectly sheer formula that has a sheeny finish but punchy pigment. We want to be a part of the Gucci lipstick gang – especially when it looks (and feels) this good.

LOVE LACQUER

Inspired by blooms in both colour and composition, Dior’s latest liquid lip is lighter than air. Spiked with flower oils, shea butter and camelina, it’s a high-impact formula that doesn’t cake, crack or crumble under pressure. Rather, it’s supremely hydrating and weightless – more like a second skin, less like a liquid lipstick. With 25 floral-inspired shades, there’s everything from punchy coral to nuanced nudes, all designed to hug the lip contour perfectly thanks to a petal-shaped applicator. Our bouquet of choice? A swipe of shade 749 D-light – the perfect punchy tangerine that will stand firm for 12 hours no matter how much kissing, crying or cursing you do.

ROUGE À LÈVRES

For baby-soft lips in a baby pink bullet, look no further than Givenchy. Le Rouge Perfecto is a balm on steroids that promises to deliver on three simple premises: plump, soften and play up your natural lip colour. It’s easy and unassuming, but perfect for crafting that natural-lips-but-much-much-better kind of finish. The product itself actually reacts to your skin’s pH, meaning wearers get a bespoke shade of pink perfectly suited to their complexion. Sounds like makeup sorcery, but in actual fact, it’s just a great product in an even greater tube. Try it if you can’t be bothered with normal lipsticks.
