If there was just one take away message from last night’s Myer Spring 2016 Runway shows it was a turn towards statement-making signature makeup. YSL Beaute’s Creative Director, Ross Andreawartha sent two looks down the Myer Spring 2016 runway. The first championed an angular, bold eye look and the second berry-toned lips, which provided the perfect counterpoint to the romantic florals, feminine shapes, and bold colours that dominated the runway.

Geometric eyes and plum-toned lips dominated the runway

Andreawartha kept skin luminous and dewy (think: glowing skin, post vegan, macrobiotic juice cleanse etc, etc.) “Skin realism is my word for this season’s trend,” said Andreawartha. “We are looking at invisible dreamy skin, no makeup makeup, and raw organic skin that gleams with radiance.”  She layered the Touche Eclat Le Teint foundation with cult favourite Touche Eclat (perfect for days where skin realism gets too real.)  and added a light wash of bronzer and blush to the apple of the cheeks for depth and dimension.YSL1

After the base of radiance and glow each look featured a bold eye or statement lip, in an ‘either/or’ but not both at the same time situation. Andreawartha and his team created geometric, “tea bag stained eyes” using the colour of the moment – a dusky, warm taupe that extended beyond the lash line, and left sharp and angular for added drama. Moody and bold, the look contrasted against the romantic, feminine, and floral motifs of Self Portrait, Oscar de la Renta, and Roksanda.

For lips it was all about being unapologetic and loud, with the Spring trends resurrecting the statement lip from its winter enclave. Traditional reds, and poppy tangerines were eschewed for mulberry tinged, and “vampy oxblood” shades, in both matte and glossy textures, a sign of our continued obsession with long-lasting lipsticks. Andreawartha used the new Yves Saint Laurent Vernis A Levres Vinyl Cream in No. 401 for a pigmented, fade-proof, rich berry pout.
