Tall, petite, curvy, willowy, buxom, flat-chested, pale skin, dark skin, freckled skin, youthful, silver fox.

Afro hair, ginger hair, men with blonde flowing locks.

Online retail store THE ICONIC might have dipped its toe in the ‘diversity’ water for its annual Swim runway show in the past, but the 2018 event took casting beautiful people across a diverse spectrum of ages, sizes and races to the next level.

But whatever the motivation behind the departure from the typical casting (and for the record, GRAZIA does believe it was altruistic), the result was impressive – and long overdue.

While they might not have all been your stereotypical models, many of the 40-strong cast walking the pebbled ‘runway’ ranging from size 8 to 18 (womens) and 28 to 42 (mens), were familiar faces.

Top models Robyn Lawley, a champion of body-positivity, Montana Cox and Tahnee Atkinson appeared, as did influencers Josh Heuston and Christian Wilkinson. There was even the world’s first male plus-sized top model, Zach Miko, who had flown in from the States for the event to promote THE ICONIC’s new Big & Tall product offering.

THE ICONIC’s 2018 Endless Summer runway show focused on five key swimwear trends for the season – including swimwear that doubles as streetwear, high-cut bottoms, neon and tropical colours, animal prints and blue in many guises.

Over 50 leading local and international designers were featured, included Tommy Hilfiger, Rayban, Birkenstock, Calvin Klein, Superga, Seafolly, Roxy, Jets, Camilla, Love Stories, Scotch and Soda, Hurley, Kate Spade, Le Specs, Saint Laurent eyewear and Michael Kors Swim.
