Stereotypical Barbie might have found some human flaws in Greta Gerwig’s record-breaking film, but Margot Robbie is close to absolutely perfect. As the 33-year-old Australian actress’ name trends across the world, footage of Robbie using sign language with a deaf fan has resurfaced.

In the clip, which was taken at the film premiere of her film Amsterdam in London in September 2022, Robbie is seen stopping to sign autographs with fans. She then spots a man who hands her a piece of paper which appears to be a sign language cheat sheet.

“For me?” she endearingly asks the man? “I know it.”

Robbie promptly gives her belongings to an aide and proceeds to converse with the deaf man. “Nice to meet you,” she signs, before taking a selfie with him.

Take a look at the precious moment below.

Fans have sung Robbie’s praises for taking the time to make the man feel seen, and encouraging others to learn the language themselves. The Barbie actress has never publicly spoken about her ability to sign (some commenters have remarked she is using British/Australian sign, not American sign language.)

Robbie has been a firm fixture in our news feeds as she promoted the Barbie film, mainly thanks to her Barbie-inspired wardrobe: We’ve had Versace momentsChanel! Vivienne WestwoodSchiaparelli! And that Dilara Findikoglu red mini.

During its opening week, Barbie has, according to Variety, raked in USD$182 million globally (AUD$270 million) at the international box office. This gives Gerwig the record for the biggest opening ever for a film directed by a woman. Comparatively, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer attracted USD$93.7 million (AUD$139.1 million).
