It takes a certain level of self awareness to effectively pull off ‘couple dressing’, and Maisie Williams and her longtime partner Reuben Selby—a frankly delightful addition to any fashion show—have it in droves. Yesterday afternoon the pair sat front row at Dior’s socially-distanced spring summer ’21 show in Paris—and during a Fashion Week that is struggling against increasing COVID-19 regulations, their appearance was a welcome ray of sunshine.

Williams and Selby have become something of a fixture on the fashion circuit, thanks to their uncanny ability to present as a single, chic unit. The first time I became aware of their existence as a couple was during an exquisite appearance in his-and-hers pink shadow at the Thom Browne show last September (they repeated the look again, this time with blue eyeshadow, in March). Since then, the duo have appeared at the Charles Jeffrey Loverboy show in London and the Givenchy front row in Paris.

The Game of Thrones actress has been dating Selby since 2019, when Selby worked predominantly as a casting agent and the director of his own agency, The Contact Agency. However, last night he unveiled plans on Instagram to launch his own eponymous label at Paris Fashion Week on October 5th, wiping his Instagram grid in the process.

For those of you that know of me, or even know me personally you probably see me as an anomaly. People often don’t understand who I am or what I do and i’ve struggled to articulate the answers to those questions. Maybe, I don’t know myself. I’ve never fit into a box and I don’t ever want to. There’s something freeing about being undefined. Not one or the other. Sometimes neither masculine or feminine. Sometimes one or the other. The world is not black and white as we like to think it is. It’s complex, far more than we can imagine. We try to make sense of the world by sticking labels on things, but this is a flawed way of communication. Words are only one form of expression.  The truth is, I’ve always struggled with words. But, through art I have a vocabulary that can truly express the way I feel and think. From as early as I can remember I have been exploring nonverbal communication and now I finally have the tools and the confidence enough to tell my story and express my inner world through art. Taking form as a brand, I will present my first collection on the 5th October. As much as this is for me, it’s for you, introverts. You are not alone.  The world as we know it requires change; and each of us needs to take responsibility for, and be accountable for our actions. Now is the time to utilise creativity as a catalyst for change, and through my brand, I want to be and encourage that change. Every choice will be conscious and carefully considered, putting our friends, and the world around us first. As with any great design, you first set the foundations. With this first collection I am putting those foundations in play, creating and developing the outline of things to come. From here on, as our vocabulary broadens, the details will follow.
