Talk about the makings of a wardrobe dilemma. How does a supermodel guarantee all eyes are on her when she shares a red carpet with the likes of Bella Hadid and Josephine Skriver. Flash more skin? Wear something verging on outrageous?

For Victoria’s Secret veteran Lily Aldridge, the answer is much simpler (as in simply channelling a 1950s Hollywood icon): opt for a stunning strapless black column dress by Australian gown king Alex Perry‘s Resort 2018 collection, which is not yet available to mere mortals in the public. As the spectacle-clad designer and Australia’s Next Top Model judge would say, the Brit model sure knows how to nail looking expensive without trying.

Aldridge, who is the global face of high-end jewellery brand Bulgari, was dressed for the cocktail party reopening of its 4000 square foot New York 5th Avenue flagship store by US fashion team La Marque made of styling trio Jordan Foster, Meredith Melling and Valerie Macaulay.

Her natural-look, faux-ho hair by NY-based stylist Bryce Scarlett was the ideal framework for a wildly expensive Bulgari necklace (a classic case of starting with a hero piece and dressing up and downward).

The unveiling of the new boutique by LVMH’s black leather-clad architect of choice Peter Marino’s was followed by a formal dinner for 200 models, celebrities and VIP guests at the Met Cloisters, a branch of the famous Metropolitan Museum of Art that’s dedicated to the art and architecture of medieval Europe.

Bella Hadid, also a global face of Bulgari for its accessories line, wore a toga-vibe white Roberto Cavalli dress that flashed (by her standards) a bare minimum amount of bare skin, perhaps in a combined nod to the jewellery brand’s Roman heritage and dinner setting. (Side note: her half-up top knot by Jen Aitkin was the most on-trend hair look of the night.)

Demi Lovato surprised guests with an acoustic performance

Ruby Rose, however, must have missed the medieval glam memo and rocked up to DJ in red plaid pants and combat boots. Demi Lovato went red too, offset with some impressive Bulgari bling, for her surprise acoustic performance at the dinner.

Still, despite all of her goddess-like qualities, Aldridge had some competition on the red carpet from 32-year-old Spanish male model Jon Kortajarena, the current male face of the brand and rumoured beau of Beauty and the Beast actor Luke Evans. There is so much aesthetic perfection in this shot of the pair together, we barely know where to look. Best bet: start with the bling.
