Renowned for being one of Australia’s chicest national event series, the Land Rover Polo in the City 2018 kicked spectacularly in Sydney last weekend, with the series set to continue to Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and then Adelaide over the next few weeks.

Polo crowds are famous world-wide for their relaxed-chic, elegant fashion aesthetic (very different to the horse racing dress code) and Sydney’s stylish crowd served up plenty of outfit gold  – in some cases literally.

Colours to dominate this year included black, white, pale blue and bold gold. Jennifer Hawkins strapless black midi dress was a departure from the usual Hamptons-white stereotype, but in line with the single head-to-to colour trend that proved most popular this year. Jumpsuits, which dominated the past two years’ best-dressed guests, were almost entirely absent this year as well.

Little surprise the biggest bag trend of the summer, wicker, featured heavily too, the perfect complement to straw hats and oversized shades.

Pattern-wise, spots replaced florals and last year’s hottest hit, gingham, as the most-seen print, giving fashion commentators all the iconic Pretty Woman polo scene feels.

In the namesaka Land Rover marquee, 200 VIPs were joined by celebrity ambassadors Hawkins, Sally Fitzgibbon and James Viles, surrounded by Range Rover vehicles (including the brands latest Range Rover Velar model) and horse-shoe inspired installations.
