Amid Kim Kardashian West’s divorce to Kanye West, a source for People has revealed that the reality star will not change her last name. It comes after the rapper filed official court documents to change his name to simply, “Ye”. We’re not kidding.
“Although Kanye often has creative ideas that Kim appreciates, he also often changes his mind. He might like Ye now, but it’s hard to know if he will in the future,” the insider told the publication. “All the kids have the last name West, so Kim is keeping it as is. Kanye hasn’t asked her to change it either.”
The ex-couple share four children; North, 8, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3 and Psalm, 2. Kardashian West filed for divorce in February 2021.
Kardashian West sparked rumours that the reason behind the mystery rebrand of her beauty label, KKW, arrived in a bid to drop the “West” from the name. Instead an insider for WWD said West was actually helping with the rebrand and it had nothing to do with the name.
“Kim is still Kim Kardashian West and has not changed her legal name,” the source said. “The rebrand has been in the works for some time. Kanye actually helped Kim come up with the new name and the packaging.
They added, “Innovative formulas and even the shopping experience of being able to shop all categories in beauty and cosmetics under one brand, one website has always been Kim’s vision from the beginning. She is incredibly excited about this next phase.”
At the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reunion with Andy Cohen, the Skims founder revealed the decision behind the split came down to “difference of opinion” and that it was not “one specific thing”. While it was believed the pair were not on speaking terms for some time, Kardashian West attended her ex-husband’s listening party for Donda in Atlanta, Georgia. They both wore matching red ensembles. A powerful message through fashion if we ever saw one.
Things may be civil between the two, but it doesn’t mean it isn’t hard. The beauty mogul reportedly broke down at the listening party after he played a song about their divorce.
