When it comes to their private lives, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West seem to be on shaky terms in light of her new beau, Pete Davidson. Professionally, it seems the reality star deeply respects her ex-husband. Overnight Kardashian accepted the People’s Choice Fashion Icon Award in Santa Monica and credited her success to West.
“I am honestly so humbled to be here. I started off as a closet organiser and a stylist, so the fact that I’m winning a Fashion Icon Award is a pinch me moment,” Kardashian said. “I’m humbled every single day that designers are willing to work with me. There was a time when they weren’t. Thank you Zac Posen who dressed me and took me to my first CFDA Awards and so many amazing designers, like Ricardo and Olivier that really believed in me.”
She then paid tribute to West. “Well, probably talked into it by getting a call from Kanye. So thank you to Kanye even for really introducing me to the fashion world. I fell in love with fashion. This is a dream that I get to wake up and wear these amazing clothes and try new things, take a risk. I’m so humbled.”
She follows Tracee Ellis Ross who was last year’s recipient of the award. Kardashian has also credited West in the past for helping her prepare for her Saturday Night Live debut in October.
The speech comes after West has made several public pleas to get back together with the Skims founder. At a Thanksgiving celebration the rapper claimed, “the narrative God wants is to see that we can be redeemed in all these relationships.”
A source close to Kardashian was adamant that they would not be reuniting romantically. “Make no mistake about it, Kim is not getting back together with Kanye. Kim has not given Kanye any indication whatsoever that she wants to work it out,” the insider told Hollywood Life. “Kim already told Kanye that their marriage was done months ago when she filed for divorce.”
