If you were wondering how Kanye West is taking the news that his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, who he just publicly said he wants to get back together with, is dating none other than SNL comedian Pete Davidson, the answer is… not well.
Over the weekend, the rapper unfollowed Kardashian on Instagram—again, marking the second time he’s hit unfollow in two months. West’s ‘gram activity comes days after Kardashian went on back to back dates with Davidson last week in New York after first being photographed holding hands on a rollercoaster during Halloween weekend in L.A. A source close to the rapper told Us Weekly that West is “not happy” about the budding relationship and that he’s “trying to stay upbeat and move on with his life,” but is “hurting.”
Further adding layers to the saga is the podcast interview West did which was released over the weekend (but likely recorded prior to Kardashian and Davidson’s public outings). In the two-hour-long conversation, West made it clear he wants to work things out with Kardashian, adding the pair aren’t even legally divorced yet.
“SNL making my wife say, ‘I divorced him,’ on TV because they just wanted to get that bar off, and I ain’t never even seen the papers,” he said, addressing jokes Kardashian made about their relationship in her monologue when she hosted Saturday Night Live in October. “We’re not even divorced…That ain’t no joke to me. My kids want they parents to stay together. I want us to be together.”
Following West’s statements, a source told E! News the musician’s comments aren’t surprising, though they are technically incorrect—they are divorced. Lawyers have even outlined some of the divorce details and Kardashian was awarded the former couple’s Hidden Hills estate. The source stated that Kardashian knows West still hopes for reconciliation and that he “is still holding out hope and wishes they could still work it out,” but that there’s “no chance for reconciliation at this point.”
A second source added, Kardashian “knows he has his feelings and doesn’t hold back on sharing them. Kanye has made it very clear he doesn’t want to get divorced and wants her to reconsider.” But Kardashian did try “for a long, long time” and “reached her breaking point” this year. They added, “Kanye is still hoping Kim changes her mind but she’s not interested in getting back together.”
Meanwhile, a source recently confirmed to Page Six that Kardashian is “intrigued” by Davidson and “likes him.” Another insider told Us Weekly that her friends have warned her to take things slow, considering Pete’s extensive list of exes and rep as a “heartbreaker,” but that her family is on board with the union.
“One of the first things Kim did was to get her family and friends’ advice, and they all encouraged her to go for it,” the source said. “It’s been very obvious for a while now that she’s been missing some fun and laughter in her life, and of course Pete offers that in abundance.” For his part, West was spotted courtside with 22-year-old model Vinetria Chubbs over the weekend.
