If fictional billionaires are to be believed, an instant way to denounce your social cachet within their spheres is to carry a ludicrously capacious bag. Succession’s Tom Wambsgans made that apparent earlier in the year, by remarking in an iconic exchange with the bumbling Cousin Gregg that “gargantuan” accessories are an “enormous faux pas”.
Though high net-worth players are typically regarded for their inconspicuous displays of wealth, one such member of the elite is eschewing this unspoken dress code altogether: Kim Kardashian.
While in New York for a reported series of business meetings, the reality star and entrepreneur redefined conventional workwear attire with a slew of rebellious sartorial choices.
Swapping corporate clichés for streetwear staples, the 43-year-old stepped out in black track pants, a matching zip-up hoodie and razor-sharp Balenciaga sock-like boots. Following the winter dressing formula proposed by Dua Lipa earlier in the week, Kardashian completed her Manhattan moment with an enormous fur trench coat. (See pictures here).
However, it wasn’t the cocktail of different aesthetics that piqued our interest, but rather her choice of bag. In lieu of a briefcase, Kardashian toted an exclusive crocodile skin Hermès Haut à courroies worth AUD $166,000.
Similar in style to French Maison’s coveted Birkin silhouette, the ‘HAC’ (as it’s fondly called by collectors) was actually the luxuriate’s very first bag. Created in the early 20th Century, the HAC was initially designed for equestrian means, with its spacious interior suited to carry a saddle and riding boots.
They say the contents of a women’s bag is a snapshot of who they are, and based on the size and white objects peaking up over the brim, it’s clear that Kardashian has a lot on her mind. The bag features a glossed grey crocodile exterior, with silver hardware rounding out the sleek, contemporary silhouette.
